Delicious Homemade Milk Cake

Milk Cake is prepared in various parts of the world like Mexico, Europe, India etc and many recipes exist to make it. But the following recipe elaborates Indian way of making Milk cake. Milk Cake is a special Indian dessert, which looks like a cake and made of milk and nuts. It is one of most liked Indian recipes in dessert category. Follow this simple recipe, try it out at home and enjoy the delicious Indian sweet.


  • 2 1/2 lt whole milk ( full fat)
  • 1/2 cup (125 gms) sugar
  • 1/2 cup mixed nuts (almonds, cashews, pistachios), thinly sliced
  • 6-8 small green cardamoms, grounded
  • 1/4 cup pure desi ghee ( Clarified butter)
  • 1/4 tsp fitkari (alum)
  • Whipped cream for topping


Boil milk in a deep pan over medium heat, add cardamoms and let it cook over low flame until milk’s quantity reduces to half while stirring continuously. Add sugar into the milk and keep stirring it over medium flame until sugar dissolves completely. Let it cook until it seems like mava (khoya) and all the liquid evaporates. Now, add Desi ghee to milk(mava) and mix it well.

Lightly grease a cake pan (8 inches round) and spread sliced mix nuts over the bottom of the pan. Pour the milk over the pan and cover it up with an aluminium foil. Let it cool for next half an hour and then put inside the refrigerator to chill. When chilled, turn the cake upside down on a plate and top with whipped cream. Again bring it to room temperature before serving.

Delicious, mouthwatering milk cake is ready. Cut the small wedges and serve with a scoop of vanilla ice-cream.
